Part of a series of posters created to advertise a ballet company's season (for purposes of this project, I have chosen the New York City Ballet Company.) Appalacian Spring is an all-American ballet, a story of the pioneers who shaped this country told through traditional dance. As such, I felt that it was important to utilize folk art and tradition to the fullest extent possible. This poster is unique for me in that the finish is photographed and the rag doll is an actual three-dimensional construction- based off of the scrap dolls owned by so many pioneer children. The text and background too are for the most part thread on cloth. Accompanying ticket design can be found here.
